On Thursday evening, Amsterdam will host the second leg of the Europa League qualification between Ajax and Panathinaikos!
Earlier in the campaign Ajax scored a double victory over Serbian Vojvodina (1-0, 3-1) in the European league, and in the domestic championship they dealt with mid-table Herenveen (1-0). The Red-Whites seem to have made the right conclusions after last season's stunning failure, when they finished only fifth.
Panathinaikos finished fourth in the Greek top-flight, and made it to the Europa League thanks solely to their triumph in the National Cup. It should be noted that in the asset of the Shamrocks are victories over Botev (2:1, 4:0) on the continental arena, and before that there were friendly sparring with Paphos (0:0), Braunschweig (0:1), AEK Larnaca (3:1) and Netanya (1:0).
In Greece, Ajax secured that all-important one goal advantage, coming close to qualifying for the next stage. Since the Amsterdam side are very good at the start of the season, we wouldn't be surprised to see them get another win.
