On Wednesday evening, Borussia Dortmund and Sporting will face off in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
Despite a shocking 0:2 defeat to Bochum, which left Dortmund languishing in 11th place in the Bundesliga, the team has shown better form in Europe. After a narrow 1:2 loss to Bologna in January, they rebounded with a convincing 3:1 win over Shakhtar.
Sporting, meanwhile, remain atop the Portuguese league but recently stumbled with a 2:2 home draw against Arouca. Since the departure of head coach Rúben Amorim, the Lions have struggled to maintain their previous dominance. Their underwhelming Champions League performances, including a 1:2 loss to RB Leipzig and a 1:1 draw with Bologna, highlight their inconsistency.
Given Borussia's three-goal cushion, they are likely to focus on maintaining control, while Sporting will be forced to go on the offensive in pursuit of a respectable result. With both teams having shown defensive vulnerabilities, there is a strong possibility of goals on both ends.
