Heart of Midlothian F.C. vs Aberdeen F.C. Prediction 5 August 2025
Added on 03 August, 2025
In the final match of the Scottish Premier League’s opening round, Hearts will host Aberdeen in what promises to be a competitive fixture.
Hearts ended the 2024/25 campaign on a high note with four straight victories, securing seventh place, and their pre-season form suggests they’ve carried that momentum forward. Robbie Neilson’s men looked dominant throughout their warm-up matches, putting away Crawley (3-1), Dunfermline (4-1), Hamilton (4-0), Stirling (4-0), Dumbarton (4-0), and even Championship side Sunderland (3-0). That kind of consistency, especially in attack, bodes well for their league start.
Aberdeen, meanwhile, have taken a more measured approach, with a 2-0 win over Cowdenbeath Rangers followed by a 1-3 defeat to Ipswich. The Dons appear to be pacing themselves for a gradual build-up to peak form later in August. Last season, however, they managed a top-six finish and capped their campaign by winning the Scottish Cup with a memorable 2-1 victory over Celtic—proof they can step up when it matters.
Despite Aberdeen’s pedigree, the odds favour Hearts for good reason. The Edinburgh side haven’t lost at home to Aberdeen since 2017, and their current momentum—both competitive and psychological—is hard to overlook. Still, with both sides traditionally solid at the back and early-season rust to be expected, a low-scoring affair seems likely. A narrow Hearts win or even a draw with under 2.5 goals looks like a reasonable prediction.
