On Sunday afternoon, Hertha will test Paderborn on the first matchday of the 2. Bundesliga.
Ninth place at the end of the 2023/24 season did not allow Hertha to immediately return to the elite division, where they had long been a solid mid-table team. However, the Old Lady is ready for new challenges, and four wins in friendlies with two draws and a 1:2 fiasco from Huddersfield are a clear confirmation of this.
Paderborn also left the elite division in the spring of 2023, and in the following campaign they finished seventh - in this they were greatly helped by four victories in the final five rounds. It should be noted that this summer the Black and Blues played with varying success against Viktoria Köln (1:0), Dynamo Kyiv (0:0), Birmingham (5:0) and PSV (1:2, 2:1).
In the previous five meetings between these teams, Hertha have always won. We wouldn't be surprised if the capital club is closer to success this time, given its traditionally strong play on its home arena.
