Ireland vs Qatar Prediction 28 May 2026

Republic of Ireland national football team will host Qatar national football team in an international friendly match in Dublin on May 28.

The Irish narrowly missed out on World Cup qualification and are already beginning preparations for the next campaign, while Qatar will use this game as part of their build-up to the upcoming tournament. Even though this is only a friendly, both teams should approach the match seriously.

Ireland came close to reaching the World Cup but suffered a painful playoff defeat against the Czech Republic after an entertaining 3-2 battle. During qualification, the Irish performed solidly overall and comfortably secured second place ahead of Hungary, although they were unable to challenge Portugal for the top spot. Heimir Hallgrímsson’s side responded well after the playoff disappointment by thrashing Grenada 5-0 in a friendly, showing attacking sharpness and good intensity in front of goal. Ireland traditionally looks much stronger at home, where the team usually plays aggressively and with high energy.

Qatar, meanwhile, successfully qualified for the World Cup but arrives in poor form. Julen Lopetegui’s side is currently without a win in four consecutive matches and struggled badly against stronger opposition during that stretch. The visitors suffered defeats against Tunisia and other regional rivals, while their only positive result came in a draw against Syria. Qatar still possesses several technically gifted players, but defensive instability and inconsistent performances continue to create problems.

In our opinion, Ireland should have the upper hand in this matchup. The hosts remain physically stronger, play with more intensity, and generally look far more reliable on home soil. Qatar’s recent form raises serious concerns, especially defensively, and facing a motivated European side away from home could become another difficult challenge for the visitors.

Prediction: Republic of Ireland to win — 1.62
