Despite their star-studded squad, the Parisians have not exactly been firing on all cylinders in the league. Four of their opening five fixtures have been rather underwhelming, including a 0-1 defeat to Marseille and narrow, hard-fought wins over Nantes (1-0), Angers (1-0), and Lens (2-0). Their only truly free-flowing performance came outside the league, when they knocked Toulouse out in a 6-3 goal-fest. Still, PSG sit second with 12 points and a 10-4 goal difference, keeping them firmly in the chase at the top.

Auxerre, meanwhile, occupy a respectable tenth place with six points and a 4-6 goal record. They have shown they can edge tight matches, having beaten Lorient (1-0) and Toulouse (1-0), but their shortcomings were exposed in defeats to Nice (1-3), Nantes (0-1), and Monaco (1-2). Jean-Marc Furlan’s side are organised and resilient, but rarely explosive in attack.

On paper, PSG are overwhelming favourites, yet their domestic performances suggest they are conserving energy with the Champions League as the main priority. That makes a one-sided rout less likely. Auxerre’s chances of escaping with a result are slim, but it would be no surprise if they managed to keep the scoreline respectable against Enrique’s pragmatic Paris outfit.
