The Round of 32 of the Coupe de France will feature the second Parisian derby in as many days, as Paris Saint-Germain face Paris FC.
Just a day earlier, PSG confirmed their domestic dominance by defeating Olympique de Marseille on penalties in the Trophée des Champions. Despite that success—and a recent 2–1 league win over Paris FC—Luis Enrique’s side currently sit second in the league standings. Their Cup campaign began in predictable fashion, with a comfortable 4–0 victory over Fontenay in the previous round.
Paris FC also progressed smoothly at this stage, dispatching Raon-l’Étape 3–0, a result that offered some relief amid a worrying league slump. In Ligue 1, the Citizens are clinging to fourteenth place and have struggled for consistency over the past month, dropping points against Le Havre (0–0), Toulouse (0–3), and PSG themselves (1–2).
That recent derby was notable not only for PSG’s narrow win, but also for their wasteful finishing. This time around, however, the favourites are unlikely to be so forgiving. I expect PSG to have addressed their inefficiencies in front of goal and to impose themselves far more decisively, leaving their weaker neighbours with little room to breathe.
