On Thursday evening, Santander hosts a Round of 16 clash in the Copa del Rey, where local side Racing will attempt to halt Barcelona’s momentum.
For the second consecutive season, Racing Santander are firmly in the promotion race in the Segunda División. Despite a recent four-game winless run against Leganés (1–1), Huesca (1–1), Valladolid (1–1), and Zaragoza (2–3), the Green-Whites remain top of the table. Their cup run has been impressive, knocking out Logroñes (4–0), Ponferradina (2–1), and Villarreal (2–1).
Barcelona, meanwhile, are enjoying their best spell in a decade, recently completing a ten-match winning streak. That run culminated in Spanish Super Cup glory, with emphatic wins over Athletic Bilbao (5–0) and Real Madrid (3–2). On paper, the gap in quality is obvious. Racing’s open, attack-minded approach should suit Barcelona perfectly from a tactical standpoint. Given the current form and matchup, it would be no surprise to see the visitors progress comfortably — potentially by a convincing margin.
