On Thursday evening, Braga will host Lincoln Red Imps in the return leg of the Europa League qualifiers - a match that looks more like a formality after the Portuguese side’s emphatic first-leg win.
Domestically, Braga began the new campaign with two routine 3:0 victories over Tondela and Alverca, though they recently slipped by drawing 2:2 against AFS. In Europe, however, the Archbishops have looked composed, grinding past Levski (0:0, 1:0) and then comfortably dispatching Cluj (2:1, 2:0).
Lincoln Red Imps, the perennial champions of Gibraltar, are no strangers to continental competition, having once reached the Conference League group stage. This summer they battled Vikingur (3:2, 1:0) and then fell to Crvena Zvezda (0:1, 1:5) in the Champions League, before edging out Noah (1:1, 1:0) to continue their European adventure.
Yet the gulf in class was brutally exposed in Gibraltar, where Braga ran riot with a 4:0 victory. The return leg, at home, should serve as little more than a controlled exhibition for the Portuguese side.
