Betfred Extends PDC World Matchplay Sponsorship Through 2030

The announcement comes on the eve of the 2025 tournament’s start in Blackpool, cementing Betfred’s role as a key supporter of one of darts’ most prestigious events for over a decade.

Having first assumed the title sponsorship in 2019, Betfred’s involvement has become synonymous with the World Matchplay, while the Women’s World Matchplay joined its sponsorship portfolio following its introduction in 2022. This renewed five-year deal will see Betfred continue to support both events during what is being widely viewed as a golden era for darts, as the sport continues to grow in popularity and stature worldwide.

Fred Done, Founder of Betfred, expressed his enthusiasm following the confirmation of the new agreement. “The Betfred World Matchplay is one of the highlights of the year — I love the seaside party atmosphere coupled with top-quality sport,” Done commented. “We’re delighted to extend our sponsorship with the PDC for another five years, during an exciting period for darts as a sport. The quality of the field has never been stronger, and we can only see these tournaments continuing to grow in the coming years.”

PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter also welcomed the news, highlighting Betfred’s significant contribution to the sport’s ongoing success. “Betfred have become synonymous with the World Matchplay since joining us as title sponsor in 2019, and it’s wonderful that they’ve extended that support for a further five years,” Porter said. “Their backing of the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay echoes their commitment to the sport, and we’re excited that prize money for both events will increase from 2026.”

In a further boost for the players, the PDC has confirmed that prize money will rise beginning in 2026. The World Matchplay prize fund is set to increase to £1 million ($1.35 million), while the Women’s World Matchplay will grow to £40,000, underlining the PDC’s ambition to enhance the prestige of both tournaments and reward the players’ performances accordingly.

This year’s Betfred World Matchplay will feature defending champion and world number one Luke Humphries, who returns to Blackpool looking to retain his crown. The 32-player lineup is packed with talent, including six former champions and reigning World Champion Luke Littler, setting the stage for another thrilling tournament at the iconic Winter Gardens venue. Meanwhile, Beau Greaves is set to defend her Women’s World Matchplay title on Sunday, July 27.

The 2025 edition has already captured the public’s imagination, with tickets selling out in record time following the success of the 2024 tournament. With increased prize money on the horizon and Betfred’s continued backing, the World Matchplay is well-positioned to maintain its reputation as one of darts’ most prestigious and entertaining events well into the next decade.
