Brazil Unveils Authorized Sports List and Approves 67 Betting Licenses Ahead of Market Launch!
Brazil has officially unveiled a comprehensive list of authorized sports for fixed-odds betting, marking a pivotal step in the regulation of its burgeoning sports betting market.

The announcement comes less than 24 hours before the market's formal opening, accompanied by reports of numerous license approvals for online gaming and sports betting operations.

The Ministry of Sports has detailed an extensive lineup of approved sports, encompassing popular activities such as football, basketball, tennis, boxing, baseball, and hockey, as well as niche disciplines like surfing, sailing, skateboarding, and martial arts. The list even extends to sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee and a wide range of Paralympic events. Football, unsurprisingly, is expected to dominate betting interest, given it accounts for a staggering 86% of Brazil’s sports betting gross gaming revenue (GGR), according to H2GC.

In parallel with these developments, Brazil is making significant progress in licensing both online gaming and sports betting operators. Reports indicate that 68 licenses for online gaming have been granted, allowing a mix of local and internationally recognized operators to enter the market. Notably, Novibet confirmed its license approval earlier today.

As for sports betting, a total of 67 licenses have been issued. Of these, 15 have received unconditional approval, while 52 remain provisional, subject to further evaluation. These numbers reflect the government’s swift action in laying the groundwork for a regulated betting ecosystem, though they may evolve as the market matures.

This surge in activity follows Brazil’s efforts earlier this month to finalize 71 online gambling applications. Operators like Salsa Gator have already received certifications, further signaling the market’s readiness. The combination of an extensive list of approved sports and the rapid issuance of licenses underscores Brazil’s commitment to establishing a well-regulated, diverse, and accessible betting landscape.

As the nation’s sports betting market officially launches, the integration of a broad range of sports and activities promises to cater to varied interests while solidifying Brazil’s position as a major hub for regulated gambling.
