Danish Gambling Authority Confirms Christmas–New Year Closure of Regulatory and Support Services
Last update: 12 December, 2025
The temporary closure applies not only to the authority itself but also to key consumer-facing services, including the national self-exclusion register ROFUS and the StopSpillet gambling support helpline. During this period, neither operators nor consumers will be able to receive responses to enquiries, with all submissions handled once normal operations resume in early January.
In a brief notice, the regulator advised stakeholders to factor the interruption into their planning, particularly when submitting regulatory correspondence, compliance-related queries or requests for responsible gambling support. No interim arrangements have been announced, and the authority confirmed that services will fully resume after the New Year.
The Danish Gambling Authority is responsible for supervising Denmark’s regulated gambling market, including licensing, compliance monitoring and enforcement, as well as overseeing responsible gambling initiatives. Its year-end closure comes at a time of sustained regulatory activity in the Danish market, following a series of policy updates and enforcement developments throughout 2025.
In recent months, the regulator has published updated market data highlighting continued growth across several gambling verticals. According to figures released in August 2025, total gambling revenue in Denmark reached DKK 714m (€95.7m), representing a 25.1% year-on-year increase. Sports betting delivered the strongest growth, rising 53.4% to DKK 225m, while online casino revenue increased by 20.7% to DKK 361m. The authority also reported that more than 64,000 individuals were registered with ROFUS during the same period, underlining the continued use of self-exclusion tools.
The closure also follows regulatory changes introduced earlier in the year. In July, Denmark updated its gambling marketing guidance, strengthening requirements around transparency, the presentation of winning probabilities and safeguards against advertising that could appeal to minors. The revised guidance applies across both online and land-based operators licensed in the Danish market.
More recently, Denmark secured cross-party parliamentary backing for a comprehensive responsible gambling policy package aimed at reducing gambling-related harm, with a particular focus on younger consumers. The measures form part of a broader effort to balance market growth with stronger consumer protections.
The Danish Gambling Authority has not provided further details on contingency measures during the holiday period, reiterating only that normal regulatory and support services will resume after 1 January.
