IOC and UEFA Forge Alliance to Safeguard Sports Betting Integrity Ahead of Olympic Games and Euro 2024!

Hosting a collaborative workshop, both entities sought to foster dialogue and coordination between sports organizations and betting entities to bolster vigilance against match-fixing and betting-related corruption.

The workshop served as a pivotal platform for stakeholders to align strategies and share best practices in maintaining the integrity of sports betting, particularly in the context of two of the most prominent sporting events on the global stage. Representatives from various International Federations (IFs) convened to contribute their insights and engage in constructive discussions on collaborative frameworks and emerging trends in sports betting.

Central to the workshop were illuminating presentations by key entities such as the Olympic Movement Unit on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions (OM Unit PMC) and UEFA’s Anti-Match-Fixing Unit. These presentations provided valuable insights into the organizations' proactive measures and detection strategies to thwart any attempts at manipulating sporting events for betting purposes.

Moreover, breakout sessions facilitated focused discussions on collaboration models and innovative approaches to monitoring and preventing match-fixing. Participants exchanged experiences and ideas, leveraging collective expertise to enhance the integrity of sports betting across various sporting disciplines.

Highlighting the significance of collaboration, Friedrich Martens, Head of the OM Unit PMC, underscored plans for close cooperation with betting operators and regulatory authorities during the Olympic Games in Paris. This collaboration aims to enable timely detection and mitigation of any irregular betting patterns or suspicious activities that could compromise the integrity of the competitions.

Similarly, Vincent Ven, UEFA's Head of Anti-Match-Fixing, emphasized UEFA's commitment to robust monitoring and prevention measures during UEFA Euro 2024. Through a dedicated assessment group, UEFA will conduct comprehensive pre- and in-competition monitoring to swiftly identify and address any potential integrity threats to the tournament.

In parallel efforts to uphold integrity, Sportradar has extended its partnership with the Chinese Men’s Professional Basketball League (CBA League), further underscoring the collective commitment to safeguarding fair play and integrity across diverse sporting domains.

By fostering collaboration between sports organizations, betting entities, and regulatory bodies, the IOC and UEFA are spearheading a unified approach to combat match-fixing and uphold the integrity of sports betting.
