Macau Horse Racing Company Ends Era!

This contract will conclude on April 1, 2024, marking the discontinuation of horse racing in the region.

The Macau Jockey Club, formerly known as the Macau Trotting Club, has faced significant financial challenges and societal issues since the introduction of flat horseracing. In 1991, responding to the government's request, the club underwent a restructuring process facilitated by gaming companies, enabling it to sustain its operations.

The Macau Horse Racing Company, responsible for managing the racing activities, reported substantial losses exceeding MOP$2.5 billion (US$310 million). The termination statement attributes the challenges to the impediments on horseracing's development and growth, exacerbated by factors such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the cessation of all racing-related operations, the current member facilities will continue to be accessible to the Club's members. Regarding the company's personnel, the statement expresses gratitude to the Board of Directors and Management, acknowledging their dedication and valuable contributions. The company pledges to conduct necessary briefing sessions for staff, provide assistance and job referrals, and adhere to Macau labor law provisions for appropriate compensation.

In early 2024, Macau released its comprehensive revenue report for the previous year, revealing consistent increases in gaming revenue compared to the preceding year, likely influenced by rising tourism rates.
