Massive Illegal Betting Ring Busted in Joint Operation by Malaysian and Singaporean Police!
In a significant crackdown on transnational crime, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) successfully dismantled an extensive illegal betting syndicate!

This joint operation led to the arrest of 41 men and two women, aged between 34 and 82, who were involved in the online illegal betting operations of the criminal organization.

The coordinated raids took place from June 30 to July 1, 2024, and saw the active participation of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Police Intelligence Department, Special Operations Command, and Land Divisions. In Singapore, 37 men and two women were apprehended, while the RMP’s Criminal Investigation Department captured four Singaporean men in Malaysia.

The operation resulted in the seizure of significant assets. Seven properties, with an estimated value of S$10.7 million (US$7 million), were confiscated alongside cash, jewelry, luxury watches, and more than 40 bank accounts holding a total estimated value of S$4 million (US$2.9 million). Additional items, including computers, mobile phones, and gambling-related paraphernalia, were also taken into custody for investigation.

The SPF reported on its official website that this joint operation underscores the ongoing commitment of both nations to combatting illegal gambling activities. Out of the arrested suspects, eight men and one woman will face charges under the Gambling Control Act 2022. Investigations into the other suspects are ongoing, with authorities aiming to unravel the full extent of the syndicate's operations.

This crackdown comes at a time when Singapore has intensified its efforts to counter money laundering and terrorism financing. Recently, the country lowered the threshold for its due diligence checks from S$5,000 to S$4,000 following a study highlighting the casino sector’s vulnerability to such crimes. This proactive measure is part of Singapore's broader strategy to strengthen its financial system against illicit activities.

The success of this operation is a testament to the effective collaboration between the SPF and the RMP. It also sends a strong message to criminal organizations about the unwavering resolve of law enforcement agencies in both countries to maintain law and order.
