Meridianbet Gains Approval to Enter South African Market Ahead of COSAFA Cup 2024!
Meridianbet, a subsidiary of Golden Matrix Group, has officially been granted a sports betting license by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, allowing the company to offer its services in South Africa!

This approval, which includes a bookmaker license, a bookmaker premises license, and a manufacturer’s license, comes just in time for the South African COSAFA Cup.

With these licenses, Meridianbet is poised to introduce its comprehensive range of sports betting products and services to South African customers. The company plans to offer live and in-play betting across a variety of markets, enhancing the betting experience for sports enthusiasts in the region. The manufacturer’s license, in particular, will enable Meridianbet to license its proprietary sports betting software within the Western Cape, potentially influencing the local betting landscape significantly.

Zoran Milosevic, CEO of Meridianbet, expressed his excitement about the new venture, stating, “We are thrilled to enter the South African market, and this new license presents a significant opportunity for us to continue to scale our operations. Expanding our reach into South Africa will provide new opportunities to grow our user base in an entirely new jurisdiction, underscoring our ongoing commitment to growing our industry-leading brands around the world.”

This strategic move by Meridianbet coincides with the imminent COSAFA Cup 2024, a football tournament that will take place from June 26 to July 7. The tournament features 12 teams, including Eswatini, Comoros, Lesotho, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Angola, Seychelles, Zimbabwe, and Kenya. Notably, this year marks the return of Zimbabwe to the tournament after a hiatus following a FIFA ban in 2022. The ban was imposed due to Zimbabwe suspending its football association’s board amidst allegations of sexual harassment against women referees. Despite the risk of a ban for interference, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) Chair, Gerald Mlotshwa, had expressed readiness for any outcome, emphasizing the need for Zimbabwean football to undergo necessary reforms.

Meridianbet’s entry into the South African market is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to sports betting in the region, aligning perfectly with the excitement surrounding the COSAFA Cup. The company’s sophisticated betting platforms and extensive market offerings are likely to attract a significant number of sports bettors, further solidifying its presence in the global betting industry.

In addition to its expansion in South Africa, Meridianbet is also making strides in European football through its latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The initiative, titled “EURO 2024: Every Goal for a Better Tomorrow,” aims to support various charitable causes by donating €30 (approximately $32.14) for every goal scored during the EURO 2024 tournament in Germany. This campaign reflects Meridianbet’s commitment to contributing positively to society while engaging with the sports community on a larger scale.

Overall, Meridianbet's strategic expansion into South Africa marks a significant milestone for the company, offering new opportunities for growth and community engagement. As the COSAFA Cup unfolds and Meridianbet begins its operations, South African sports bettors can look forward to a new, enhanced betting experience.
