Romania: Superbet Pays Out €30m After Technical Glitch Inflates Winnings

The operator’s decision, announced after an internal review, has attracted widespread attention across the Romanian gambling community.

The issue occurred over the weekend on Playtech’s Fire Blaze Red Wizard slot, but Gambling Insider understands the malfunction was not related to Playtech’s technology. According to sources close to the matter, both the developer and the operator are aligned in confirming that the glitch originated elsewhere. A Playtech spokesperson commented: “We confirm that there are no malfunctions or gameplay issues with this or any other Playtech slot. Playtech games are operating as normal, and any reported concerns are unrelated to Playtech game functionality.”

Despite initial confusion, Superbet has agreed to honour the inflated winnings. Around 7,500 players are believed to have benefited from the payout, with some customers staking small sums that unexpectedly returned disproportionately high rewards. At first, Superbet froze a number of accounts and pointed to its terms and conditions, which typically allow operators to void winnings where obvious errors have occurred. The supplier, one of the largest in the industry, is understood to be assisting with technical checks to ensure the integrity of its content remains beyond question.
