Sportradar Extends Long-Term Partnership with MLB Until 2032
Last update: 08 February, 2025
This deal, which builds on a relationship that began in 2014, further solidifies their commitment to working together in the realms of data, audiovisual (AV) content, and technology.
As part of the newly brokered agreement, Sportradar will continue to distribute all MLB data, AV content, and media across global markets. This marks an important step in the growing partnership between the two entities, as both aim to expand their reach and innovate within the sports entertainment landscape. The deal also sees MLB acquiring an equity stake in Sportradar, which signals a deeper financial and strategic commitment to the technology supplier. Additionally, the agreement includes plans to collaborate on the development of AI-integrated products, which will aim to enhance fan engagement and create new opportunities in the evolving world of sports technology.
Sportradar's CEO, Carsten Koerl, expressed his excitement about the extended partnership, emphasizing the potential to leverage cutting-edge technology to further engage fans. "We are thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with MLB," Koerl stated. "This agreement represents a new, exciting chapter in our journey together. Our collaboration is not only about leveraging technology and content but also working together to create innovative products that enhance fan engagement and bring fans closer to the game. By combining our strengths, we can unlock new opportunities and reach more sports fans around the globe to shape the future of sports entertainment."
The partnership has been mutually beneficial, as both parties have experienced significant growth. Sportradar’s role in providing MLB’s data and media content has already helped the league expand its global presence. Additionally, the deal is expected to be immediately accretive to Sportradar's business, which will benefit from the growing engagement and enhanced fan experiences facilitated by the partnership.
Kenny Gersh, MLB’s Executive Vice President of Media and Business Development, also spoke on the importance of Sportradar’s contributions, particularly in helping MLB navigate the complex global sports betting landscape. "Sportradar has been a great partner to MLB, particularly helping us navigate the legalization and continued evolution of the global sports betting landscape," Gersh said. "Over the course of our partnership, Sportradar has consistently developed great products utilizing MLB’s best-in-class data. MLB is delighted to continue innovating with Sportradar to create engaging products and services for MLB fans globally."
This partnership extension comes amid a period of growth and transformation for Sportradar. Recently, the company opened a new office in São Paulo, which will act as a hub for the newly regulated Brazilian sports betting market. Moreover, Sportradar has reported a significant decline in global match-fixing activities in 2024, marking the first decrease in years after a troubling rise in prior periods.
In addition to this extended partnership, it’s worth noting that Sportradar and MLB entered into a player-scouting collaboration in November 2024, further expanding their joint efforts to engage with the sports community at multiple levels. This partnership extension with MLB reflects Sportradar’s ongoing efforts to solidify its position as a leading global provider of data and technology solutions for the sports industry.
On a more somber note, MLB star Shohei Otani’s interpreter was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of theft amounting to nearly $17 million from the Dodgers pitcher. This criminal act, which was aimed at covering gambling debts, has added an unfortunate chapter to the MLB's recent news cycle.
