Sweden Bans Goodwin NV for Operating Without a License
Curaçao-based gaming supplier Goodwin NV has been officially banned from operating in the Swedish market by Spelinspektionen, the country's gambling regulator.

The company was found to be in violation of Sweden's Gambling Act after an investigation revealed that it was operating without a valid license. The Swedish Gambling Authority conducted a beta test that confirmed Sweden-based customers could create accounts and access Goodwin NV's services, leading to the immediate enforcement of the ban.

This decision adds Goodwin NV to the growing list of Curaçao-based companies barred from Sweden, which includes other operators such as Galaktika NV, Small House BV, and Cosmogames NV. Earlier this month, another Curaçao-based company, Versus Odds BV, faced a similar fate after being found in breach of Swedish regulations.

While Goodwin NV has the right to appeal the regulator's decision, the enforcement of the ban is immediate. Should the company fail to comply with the ruling and withdraw from the Swedish market, it risks facing further financial penalties and legal action.

The Swedish government has ramped up its efforts to regulate the gambling industry more strictly. Towards the end of 2024, the Swedish Gambling Authority outlined its budgetary framework for 2025, emphasizing enhanced supervision over unlicensed gambling operators and a stronger focus on combating match-fixing. As part of these efforts, Sweden recently joined the Macolin Convention, an international treaty aimed at addressing match-fixing in sports.

In addition, the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) has introduced two new initiatives to strengthen anti-money laundering measures within the industry. These actions reflect the country's commitment to maintaining a well-regulated and responsible gambling environment.

The Swedish Gambling Authority has also been in the spotlight recently due to reports of a potential data breach in the Spelpaus self-exclusion system. However, the regulator promptly refuted these claims, assuring the public that the system remains secure and operational.

Overall, the ban on Goodwin NV underscores Sweden's ongoing efforts to clamp down on unlicensed gambling operators and reinforce the integrity of its regulated market. With increased regulatory oversight and a commitment to enforcing compliance, the Swedish market continues to prioritize player protection and fair play.
