Virgin Bet and Sport Social Launch Campaign to Support Fans Amid Rising Ticket Costs
Last update: 28 November, 2024With ticket prices exceeding £1,000 for many clubs, the initiative aims to provide financial relief while raising awareness about the growing challenges faced by football supporters.
The campaign will award £1,000 each to eight Premier League season ticket holders through a competition that invites fans to share personal stories or nominate others. Open to UK-based participants, submissions can be made via written stories or voice notes on the campaign’s official website until 22 December. Winners will be notified in January.
Virgin Bet’s Marketing Director, Dominic Vye, emphasized the campaign's goal of supporting fans who make the sport unique. “At Virgin Bet, we believe that ‘A Grand Isn’t Grand’ when it comes to the cost of being a football fan. We are committed to making sport accessible for all, and with rising season ticket prices, this campaign is our way of giving back to the fans.”
The initiative comes as many supporters voice frustration over the affordability of attending matches. Recent increases in ticket prices have highlighted the financial strain on fans, threatening the inclusivity of live football experiences. By directly addressing these concerns, the campaign aims to spotlight the issue while providing tangible support to a select group of fans.
This project is part of Virgin Bet’s broader “A Good Bet” ethos, which focuses on improving accessibility and inclusivity in sports. Previous initiatives have included Women’s Day at Doncaster Racecourse and sponsorships promoting safety for event attendees.
As season ticket costs continue to rise, “A Grand Isn’t Grand” seeks to foster a conversation about affordability while celebrating the passion and dedication of football supporters. By awarding £1,000 to eight individuals, the campaign not only alleviates financial burdens but also underscores the vital role fans play in the sport.
