FIBA and Genius Sports Extend Partnership!
FIBA, the global governing body for basketball, has recently announced a groundbreaking extension of its partnership with Genius Sports, signifying a pivotal step in the integration of AI-powered technology within the realm of basketball!

This extended collaboration, scheduled to endure from 2025 to 2035, will witness Genius Sports deploying its cutting-edge technology across various leagues and national federations worldwide. The primary focus of these AI-powered tools is to automate essential processes such as official data collection, live video production, and optical player tracking.

The introduction of this new technology is poised to enhance broadcasting capabilities significantly, creating an integrated solution that seamlessly combines live game statistics with video production. A key element of this integration is Genius Sports' optical system, meticulously trained to interpret live game plays and predict outcomes in real-time. This system is designed to transform raw data and video feeds into actionable game insights, enriching the overall viewer experience.

A notable feature arising from this collaboration is the implementation of an AI-powered player-tracking system. This innovative technology is intended to provide leagues and national federations with advanced coaching tools, analytics, and automated officiating. By harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, this system aims to elevate the overall performance analysis and officiating processes within the basketball ecosystem.

Andreas Zagklis, the Secretary General of FIBA, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "For almost 20 years, FIBA and Genius Sports have collaborated to develop the most innovative tools for basketball leagues and national federations at all levels. Through this automated solution, our objective is to assist national federations and leagues in increasing their reach and revenue while simultaneously reducing costs. We are delighted to expand our partnership with Genius Sports to achieve this goal and provide the FIBA Family with first access to cutting-edge basketball technology."

Mark Locke, CEO of Genius Sports, shared his excitement about the expanded partnership, stating, “We’re thrilled to expand our landmark partnership with FIBA, equipping leagues and national federations with state-of-the-art technology to transform how their fans, coaches, officials, broadcasters, and sponsors interact with live data and video. Powered by our unique AI-driven system, leagues and national federations at all levels of basketball will be able to automate data and video collection and utilize the highest quality player and team tracking data.”

As per the terms of the extended agreement, Genius Sports will serve as FIBA’s Official Data and Video Capture and Production Partner, as well as the governing body’s Official Innovation and Technology Services Partner until 2035. This extended collaboration is poised to shape the future of basketball by seamlessly integrating AI technology across various facets of the sport.
