Sportsbet has sealed a five-year partnership deal with the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC), set to commence on January 1, 2024. The MRC, a not-for-profit members club hosting over 80 race meetings annually, will see Sportsbet taking on the naming rights for the Caulfield Cup Carnival and the Caulfield Cup as part of the collaboration.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sportsbet will annually contribute AU$125,000 (US$83,900) to the MRC Foundation. The partnership also involves investments in racing growth initiatives at Mornington racetrack, fostering the expansion of MRC Membership, and offering a substantial AU$1 million prize for any horse achieving victory in both the Sportsbet Mornington Cup and Sportsbet Caulfield Cup within the same calendar year.
A primary objective of this collaboration is to reshape the perception of the sport and attract new racing enthusiasts while broadening the audience base. Barni Evans, CEO of Sportsbet, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the shared goal of introducing racing to a wider audience. The commitment extends beyond racing, with Sportsbet dedicating AU$125,000 annually to the MRC Foundation, supporting local communities and industry participants.
Josh Blanksby, CEO of the Melbourne Racing Club, characterized this collaboration as the most significant in the club's history. He highlighted the excitement surrounding the partnership with Sportsbet, Australia's largest wagering provider, emphasizing the opportunity to bring the sport to a broader audience and ensure its lasting presence on the sporting stage. Blanksby looks forward to leveraging Sportsbet's iconic brand to introduce racing to a wider sporting audience, capitalizing on the platform's substantial market share.
