International Collaboration Formed to Revitalize Global Horse Racing and Boost British Betting!

The committee, chaired by Joe Saumarez Smith, who also leads the BHA, aims to promote Japanese horses, facilitate smoother travel for connections between regions, enhance industry awareness, establish a regulatory partnership, and further internationalize horse racing.

Expressing enthusiasm for the partnership, Saumarez Smith highlighted the longstanding positive relationship between the British and Irish horse racing industries and the JRA. He anticipates that this collaboration will foster increased participation in each other's racing, leading to deeper fan engagement and the generation of new revenues.

In response to a perceived decline in betting on British races, the BHA implemented measures in 2023 to address this issue. The 2024 fixture list reflects improvements in prize money and race quality, with a strategic focus on Saturdays and strengthened Sunday offerings. The BHA aims to attract more betting on British horse racing by enhancing competitiveness and the overall quality of races. The anticipated financial impact of these changes is estimated to be around £90 million over a five-year period. However, BHA Chief Operating Officer Richard Wayman cautioned that not all adjustments may yield immediate success.
