This Thursday, Saint-Etienne will test their strength against Metz in the Ligue 1 playoff match!
Theoretically, Saint-Etienne could have moved up the class directly, but did not do so due to three consecutive misfires in duels with Guingamp (2:2), Rodez (1:1) and Quevilly Rouen (1:2) at the end of the campaign. However, the Greens very quickly made the right conclusions and calmly dealt with the aforementioned Rodez (2:0) at the playoff level already.
Metz took sixteenth place in Ligue 1, earning 29 points with a scored-conceded statistics of 35:58. It should be noted that back in mid-April the Garnets beat Le Havre (1:0), after which they suffered four defeats in a row against Lille (1:2), Rennes (2:3), Strasbourg (1:2) and PSG (0:2).
As for us, today’s Saint-Etienne are no weaker than Metz, who are in a fairly deep psychological hole. Even a draw would be a serious achievement for the guests, given the current circumstances.
