In the second round of the UEFA Champions League, one of the tournament's underdogs, Slovan, is set to face the ambitious Manchester City!
Slovan’s recent 1-5 loss to Celtic, a team not considered among Europe's elite, quickly highlighted their current level. This is their first appearance in the Champions League group stage in the 21st century. However, Slovan has been dominant in the Slovak league, securing wins against Belusha (6-1) and Michalovce (4-2).
Meanwhile, Manchester City, after an impressive start in the Premier League with four consecutive wins, has hit a minor stumbling block. They drew twice in a row with Arsenal (2-2) and Newcastle (1-1), and narrowly edged past Watford (2-1) in the League Cup. Additionally, a 0-0 draw against Inter in Europe likely didn’t satisfy their lofty ambitions.
Despite this recent dip in form, Guardiola’s side will be relieved to face an opponent with limited top-level experience. It’s expected that Manchester City will ultimately hand Slovan a heavy defeat.
