In the fourteenth round of the Premier League, Liverpool, the confident league leaders, will face the unpredictable Newcastle in an intriguing away match.
Newcastle's recent form has been a mixed bag. Since late October, they have celebrated notable victories over Arsenal (1:0) and Nottingham Forest (3:1), shared the spoils with Crystal Palace (1:1), but suffered defeats against Chelsea (1:2) and West Ham (0:2). With 19 points and a goal difference of 14:14, the Magpies currently sit 11th, just four points shy of the Champions League zone.
Liverpool, however, are in commanding form at the top of the table with 34 points and an impressive 26:8 goal difference. Following a 2:2 draw with Arsenal, the Reds have been on a rampage, claiming wins over Brighton (2:1), Aston Villa (2:0), Southampton (3:2), and Manchester City (2:0). Their consistency has made them a dominant force this season.
While Newcastle has the potential to offer stiff resistance, their inconsistency could be a hurdle. Given Liverpool’s attacking prowess, it’s hard to envision the visitors leaving without finding the net at least once.
