San Juan Legalizes Online Gambling with Comprehensive New Regulations
The province of San Juan in Argentina has officially passed a bill to regulate online gambling, marking a significant step towards legalizing and formalizing this activity in the region.

The new legislation aims to address several critical issues, including eradicating illegal gambling, promoting responsible practices, combating fraud, protecting minors under the age of 18, and preventing gambling addiction.

The scope of the regulation is comprehensive, encompassing a variety of online gambling formats such as draws, raffles, and betting activities. It applies regardless of whether the outcomes are determined by luck, skill, or a combination of both. By establishing clear legal parameters, San Juan aims to foster a safer and more transparent online gambling environment for participants while ensuring operators comply with stringent standards.

The legislation also defines illegal gambling explicitly as any online gambling activity conducted without proper authorization or by operators who fail to meet the legal requirements of their licenses. This includes offering unapproved games or violating the terms of existing licenses. These measures are designed to protect consumers and maintain the integrity of the emerging online gambling market.

This move follows similar developments in other parts of Argentina. Online gambling was first legalized in December 2021 in both the city and province of Buenos Aires, setting a precedent for other regions to follow.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, progress is underway toward the launch of its regulated online gambling market. Regis Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Bets at the Ministry of Finance, recently confirmed that the country is finalizing its first 71 online gambling applications, with the market set to officially open next month.

These developments highlight a broader trend across Latin America, as countries and provinces adopt regulations to control online gambling, fostering safer markets and generating economic benefits.
