North Star Network Expands Into Africa With Soccernet.ng Acquisition!
Last update: 26 December, 2024
Soccernet, renowned for its coverage of Nigerian football news, trending stories, and scores, will now join a portfolio of over 20 international sporting media brands under the North Star Network umbrella.
This acquisition marks a significant milestone for both parties. Soccernet’s Co-founder, Lolade Adewuyi, will remain with the team as a columnist, ensuring continuity in the brand's editorial voice. Julien Josset, Co-founder of North Star Network, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “We’re excited to welcome Soccernet.ng into the North Star Network family. Their passion for Nigerian football and commitment to quality journalism aligns perfectly with our global vision of bringing fans closer to the game they love.”
Founded a decade ago by Biyi Akangbe, Soccernet began as a small platform dedicated to delivering news about Nigerian footballers. Over the years, it has grown into a globally recognized source for Nigerian football updates, attracting an international audience from regions including the UK, North America, Canada, and Spain. Commenting on the acquisition, Akangbe said, “We are happy that our hardworking journalists will continue working on the brand as it becomes part of an international group.”
North Star Network’s portfolio already includes notable brands such as Afrik Foot, Football Whispers, Cringe, Balon Latino, Esportelandia, and SportsMole. The addition of Soccernet strengthens the network’s foothold in Africa, a key growth market for sports media.
This development aligns with North Star’s broader mission to enhance sports coverage across diverse regions, offering localized content that resonates with fans while maintaining global standards. The integration of Soccernet into the network ensures Nigerian football receives amplified exposure on an international stage.
