On Tuesday night in Lviv, Karpaty and Shakhtar will face off in the 21st round of the UPL.
Despite being a newly promoted side, Karpaty have performed admirably, sitting in seventh place with 28 points and a balanced goal difference of 23:23. Their spring campaign has seen mixed results: a 1-0 victory over LNZ, a goalless draw with Vorskla, and a 0-2 loss to Dynamo Kyiv.
Shakhtar, meanwhile, started the spring phase with wins over Livyi Bereh (1-0) and Oleksandriya (3-0) but were unexpectedly held to a 1-1 draw by Kryvbas. Traditionally the league’s dominant force, the Pitmen currently find themselves in third place with 40 points and a 46:16 goal record.
Despite their position, Shakhtar remain an offensive powerhouse, but Karpaty have shown they are not afraid to play bold, attacking football, even against top teams. Given both teams’ approaches, an entertaining match with a high goal tally seems likely.
