In the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16, Bayer will attempt to overturn a three-goal deficit against Bayern.
This season has been a step down for Bayer compared to their previous campaign—after a disappointing 0-2 loss to Werder, their hopes of defending the Bundesliga title are now largely theoretical. However, they managed to secure a direct spot in the last 16 of the Champions League, avoiding additional playoff matches.
Bayern, on the other hand, had a tougher path, narrowly edging past Celtic in the Round of 32 (2-1, 1-1). Their recent 2-3 defeat to Bochum was a setback, but they remain among the Bundesliga leaders with strong title ambitions.
Given the 0-3 scoreline from the first leg, Bayer’s chances of advancing seem slim. However, under Xabi Alonso, they have the quality to put up a fight and avoid another heavy defeat.
