Italy and Germany, two of Europe’s most decorated national teams, will go head-to-head in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals.
Despite a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign, where they exited in the Round of 16 after a 0-2 loss to Switzerland, Italy performed admirably in the Nations League group stage. The Azzurri secured 13 points in a challenging group, recording a 3-1 win and a 1-3 loss against France, as well as victories over Israel (2-1, 4-1) and a hard-fought draw and win against Belgium (2-2, 1-0).
Germany, under Julian Nagelsmann, has shown clear progress and reached the Euro 2024 quarterfinals before falling 1-2 to Spain. In the Nations League, Die Mannschaft dominated their group, crushing Hungary (5-0, 1-1), overcoming Bosnia with ease (2-1, 7-0), and earning solid results against the Netherlands (2-2, 1-0). Their improved attacking approach has made them a more formidable force.
Given both teams’ performances in the group stage, an open and attacking contest seems likely. With Italy looking to redeem themselves and Germany continuing their upward trajectory, a match featuring goals from both sides would not be surprising.
