The final fixture of Serie A’s third round will see ambitious Como face off against Genoa.
Como impressed early in the season: in the Coppa Italia 1/32 finals, they comfortably dispatched Südtirol (3:1), and in the league they managed a statement win over Lazio (2:0) before a narrow loss to Bologna (0:1). Backed by over €100 million in summer investments from owner Larijani, the club is clearly determined to establish itself as more than just a newcomer in the Italian top flight.
Genoa, meanwhile, are in a different phase of their project. Having recently returned to Serie A, the Griffins have settled into the role of a solid mid-table side — not in the relegation battle, but not pushing for Europe either. Their league start has been underwhelming: a goalless draw against Lecce (0:0) and a narrow defeat to Juventus (0:1). However, they did enjoy success in the Coppa Italia, easing past Vicenza Virtus with a confident 3:0 win.
On paper, Como appear the stronger side. Their squad depth and individual quality give them a significant edge, and their playing style looks more dynamic compared to Genoa’s pragmatic approach. Unless the visitors manage to turn the game into a cagey, low-scoring affair, Genoa may struggle to avoid defeat.
