Valencia and Real Oviedo will close out the seventh round of La Liga on Monday night, with both teams eager to strengthen their position in the table.
Valencia sit in 11th place with eight points and an 8-10 goal difference, looking every bit the mid-table side this season. Los Ches were humbled by Barcelona in a 6-0 defeat, a match that accounted for the bulk of their goals conceded. Aside from that heavy loss, their form has been respectable, with victories over Getafe (3-0) and Athletic Bilbao (2-0), a 2-2 draw with Espanyol, and only a narrow defeat to Osasuna (0-1). Their home form in particular has been a steady foundation.
Real Oviedo, meanwhile, are struggling to adapt. Their highlight came at the end of August with a surprise 1-0 win over Real Sociedad, but consistency has been lacking. The Asturians have lost to Real Madrid (0-3), Getafe (0-2), Elche (0-1), and Barcelona (1-3), leaving them in 18th place with just three points and a concerning 2-11 goal record. Their defensive fragility remains a major weakness.
Valencia have shown they can rise to the occasion at Mestalla, and both of their victories this season came at home against stronger opposition than Oviedo. Given the contrast in form and stability, the Bats will be favored to extend their solid run in front of their supporters.
