London Hippodrome Launches ‘Paddy’s Sportsbook’ in Style
The London Hippodrome Casino celebrated a major milestone last night with the unveiling of its brand-new Paddy Power sportsbook, a development made possible by the recent Gambling Act Review.

The event drew an impressive roster of celebrities, sporting stars, and industry figures, marking a significant moment for UK retail gambling.

Beneath the main gambling floor, the newly minted sportsbook has been transformed into a sports fan’s paradise. The room features a staggering 55 screens, including a massive 10-metre curved display complemented by 54 others, ensuring that every guest can follow the action in high definition. A 360-degree bar sits at the heart of the space, providing refreshments while maintaining an uninterrupted view of the screens. The sportsbook combines the excitement of live betting with the entertainment and social environment of a modern casino, reflecting Paddy Power’s distinctive blend of sports and humor.

The opening night offered more than just sports action. Guests could enjoy four gaming tables, a darts board, video poker machines, and even a burger bar, ensuring there was something for everyone. Neon green lighting, characteristic of Paddy Power branding, bathed the room, adding vibrancy and energy to the evening. A live string band provided musical entertainment, while magicians mingled with guests, adding an extra layer of spectacle.

The launch also attracted high-profile sporting names. Former footballer Peter Crouch and darts star Fallon Sherrock were among the notable guests, joining Hippodrome Executive Chairman Simon Thomas to celebrate the occasion. Thomas highlighted that the sportsbook had been a long-held dream for the venue and praised the seamless partnership with Paddy Power in bringing the project to life. Rupert Elwood, Managing Director of Retail at Paddy Power, also addressed the audience, emphasizing the operator’s excitement at pioneering this innovative form of retail gambling in the UK.

Beyond entertainment, the evening had a charitable dimension. Guests were provided with £200 ($270) worth of chips to try their luck at the new facilities, with any winnings contributing to charitable causes. This initiative allowed attendees to engage with the sportsbook firsthand while supporting meaningful projects, blending fun and philanthropy in a way that resonated with the celebratory tone of the night.

The launch was made possible thanks to the Gambling Act Review, which allowed casinos to expand their offerings. The review permitted additional slots on the gaming floor, up to a maximum of 80, and facilitated new lounge spaces and betting options. For the Hippodrome, this meant a significant enhancement to its retail gambling environment, marrying traditional casino experiences with modern sportsbook innovation.

Overall, the debut of Paddy’s Sportsbook at the London Hippodrome was a vibrant showcase of modern gambling, entertainment, and hospitality. With state-of-the-art technology, celebrity guests, and an atmosphere designed for engagement and fun, the venue has set a new benchmark for the UK’s retail sportsbook experience. The event confirmed that the Hippodrome, with its partnership with Paddy Power, is not only expanding the boundaries of gaming but also redefining how sports betting can be experienced in a social, immersive setting.
