In the second round of Group A at the Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco take on Mali.
As 2022 World Cup semifinalists and hosts of the tournament, Morocco enter the competition as one of the clear favorites for the title. The Atlas Lions opened their AFCON campaign with a composed 2–0 victory over Comoros, continuing the strong form that also saw them defeat Jordan 3–2 in the Arab Cup final.
Mali, meanwhile, arrive with far less momentum. Despite wins over Chad (2–0) and Madagascar (4–1) in October, the Eagles failed to qualify for the World Cup and looked unconvincing in a 0–0 pre-tournament draw with Jordan. Their AFCON opener ended in a 1–1 draw against Zambia — a disappointing result given their pre-match favoritism.
On paper and on the pitch, Mali trail Morocco in both quality and experience. With Regragui’s side well-organized and brimming with confidence, it’s hard to see room for an upset here. Everything points toward another routine victory and three more points for the Atlas Lions.
