Benfica vs Celtic Prediction 15 October 2026

Benfica will face Celtic in Round 2 of the Europa League league phase on 15 October 2026 at 22:00 at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

The hosts enter the match in excellent attacking form, while Celtic have struggled defensively in their recent fixtures.

Benfica have won four of their last five matches. They defeated Maritimo 3-0, Moreirense 4-0 and Gil Vicente 3-1 in domestic competition. They also produced an impressive 2-0 away victory over Milan in the Europa League. Their only defeat came against Porto, who won 3-1. Benfica have scored 13 goals in their four victories during this period.

Celtic have won two and lost three of their last five matches. They beat St. Mirren 2-1 and St. Johnstone 1-0, but then lost 0-3 to Rangers. Their Europa League campaign began with a 1-3 home defeat to Ferencvaros, before another 0-1 loss to Rangers. Celtic have scored only three goals in their last five matches and failed to score in three of them.

The teams arrive in very different form, but the total goals market is supported primarily by Benfica's recent attacking numbers. The Portuguese side have scored at least three goals in three of their last four victories and have already shown their ability to perform at European level with the win over Milan. At the same time, Celtic have conceded three goals in two of their last three defeats.

Benfica should create enough pressure at home to contribute significantly to the total. Celtic's defensive problems also leave room for a high-scoring scenario if the visitors are forced to play more openly after conceding. A total of four goals therefore looks achievable based on the recent statistics of both sides.
