The Italian Cup Round of 16 brings together Napoli and Cagliari - two sides currently operating at very different levels.
Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, remain strong contenders for this season’s Scudetto and have shown solid form through November. The Partenopei recorded victories over Atalanta (3–1), Qarabag (2–0), and Roma (1–0), earned a goalless draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, and suffered only one setback, a 0–2 defeat to Bologna.
Cagliari arrive in the Cup under far less encouraging circumstances. Winless in nine consecutive Serie A matches, the Sardinians have slipped to 15th place, though their recent 1–2 loss to Juventus offered at least a measure of resilience. Their Coppa Italia journey, however, has been more positive, with Walter Mazzarri’s side advancing past Entella (2–1) and Frosinone (4–1).
Given the disparity in form and quality, Napoli enter this tie as overwhelming favorites, especially at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, where they typically play with greater fluidity and confidence. With the Cup representing a meaningful objective this season, the home side are unlikely to ease off.
