Manchester City F.C. vs Real Madrid CF Prediction 17 March 2026

The decisive second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 between Manchester City and Real Madrid will take place this Tuesday.

On paper, City are still competing for four trophies this season, but realistically their chances may come down to one or two. Over the weekend, the Citizens were held to a 1–1 draw by West Ham, a result that damaged their position in the Premier League title race. Finishing inside the top eight of the Champions League league stage also failed to spare them from a difficult knockout opponent.

Real Madrid reached this stage after two narrow victories over Benfica in the Round of 32 (1–0 and 2–1), avenging their earlier 4–2 defeat in the league phase. At the moment, Los Blancos are dealing with several injury problems and a relatively thin squad, though that did not prevent them from beating Elche 4–1 in their latest La Liga fixture.

In the first leg a week ago, Real Madrid secured an impressive 3–0 victory, with Federico Valverde playing a decisive role. Carlo Ancelotti’s side will likely focus on maintaining a disciplined defensive structure in Manchester and protecting their advantage. City, meanwhile, will be forced to push forward from the start in search of a comeback. I still expect Guardiola’s team to win the match at home, though it may ultimately prove to be their final game in this season’s European campaign.
